Method and formula
BMI equals weight in kilograms divided by height in meters squared. Enter height in centimeters and weight in kilograms; the calculator converts centimeters to meters automatically.
Worked example
A person who weighs 70 kg and is 175 cm tall has a BMI of 70 ÷ 1.75², or about 22.9.
What the result does not include
BMI is a screening measure, not a diagnosis. It does not directly measure body fat and may be less informative for children, pregnant people, older adults, and highly muscular athletes.
